The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
