The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
