The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
