The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
