The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 Defeated have been the Byzantines 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 (It is) a Promise of Allah (i.e. Allah will give victory to the Romans against the Persians), and Allah fails not in His Promise, but most of men know not. 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 Have they not travelled through the earth that they may observe what was the end of their predecessors who were far mightier and tilled the land and built upon it more than these have ever built? And Allah's Messengers came to them with Clear Signs. It was not Allah Who wronged them, but it is they who wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they belied the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, Messengers, etc.) of Allah and made mock of them. 10
