The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
