۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
