Call to mind when Abraham said to his father and his people, "I disown utterly that which you worship. 26 except for the One who has created me and will guide me". 27 And he left it as a Word to endure among those who came after him, that they may turn back (to Allah). 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 And when the Truth came to them they said: “This is just sorcery and we reject it.” 30 And they say: wherefore hath not this Qur'an been revealed to a man of the two cities who was great. 31 Are they the distributors of your Lord’s mercy? We have distributed among them their comforts in the life of this world, and gave high status to some over others so that they mock at each other; and the mercy of your Lord is better than all what they hoard. 32 And were it not that all people had been a single nation, We would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the Beneficent Allah (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend. 33 And (silver) doors to their houses, and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, 34 And gold ornament. But all that is not but the enjoyment of worldly life. And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous. 35
