Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
