He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
