Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
