And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah]. 94 Then changed We the evil plight for good till they grew affluent and said: Tribulation and distress did touch our fathers. Then We seized them unawares, when they perceived not. 95 And if the people of the towns had believed and guarded (against evil) We would certainly have opened up for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they rejected, so We overtook them for what they had earned. 96 Did the people of the towns feel secure against the coming of Our wrath by night while they were asleep? 97 Do the people of the cities feel secure Our might shall not come upon them in daylight while they are playing? 98 Did they consider themselves secure from the retribution of God? No one can have such attitude except those who are lost. 99
