Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 half the night, or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
