The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
