The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER those [stars] that rise only to set, 1 And [by] those who remove with ease 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking: 4 And who plan the implementation. 5 On the day when the trembling one will tremble. (The disbelievers will certainly taste the punishment.) 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 Their looks will be downcast. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 after we have become bones and dust?" 11 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 But he denied and disobeyed, 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 Yet to a rich man, 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
