The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
