The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
