The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
