The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
