And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 Verily, by your life (O Muhammad SAW), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly. 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers. 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
