The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
