۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
