The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
