۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
