The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and rejects what is right, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
