Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
