The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
