Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
