The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
