The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
