The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
