He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
