۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
