The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
