Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
