The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
