The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
