The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
