He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
