The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
