Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
