Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
