No, by the moon! 32 And the night when it departs, 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 about the sinners. 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
