The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
