The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
