The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
