The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
