The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
