The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Are free of blame, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
