Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
